Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker contender in the world by many of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching turning 1. His grandpa showed him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to discover everything he possibly could about the game. He routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not let the negative feedback from other people destroy his goal of becoming one of the strongest poker players in the world.
He started playing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a learning experience and winning wasn’t a regular outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he destroyed a number of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and an immeasurable passion for poker. Phil says that he’s learning every day and is very abashed about his achievements. Phil admits to making blunders every single game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a regular basis.
