Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker player on the planet by many of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa showed him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to learn everything he could about poker. Phil routinely told his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He did not permit the detrimental comments from other people kill his ambition of being one of the best poker players on the planet.
Phil began playing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he destroyed quite a few of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an undying passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he’s picking up skills every day and is incredibly humble about his accomplishments. He admits to making blunders in each session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a regular basis.
