Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker player in the world by many of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His papa taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to discover whatever he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He didn’t let the adverse comments from other people kill his dream of being one of the strongest poker players in the world.
He began playing intently after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a learning period and winning wasn’t a normal thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he destroyed a number of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an immeasurable love for the game of poker. Phil states that he is picking up skills every day and is quite abashed about his success. Phil knows he makes mistakes every single game of poker and always strives to get better.
Even though Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a normal basis.
