Online poker has become world famous recently, with televised competitions and celebrity poker game events. The games popularity, though, stretches back quite a bit further than its television ratings. Over the years numerous variations on the first poker game have been created, including a few games that are not really poker anymore. Caribbean stud poker is one of these particular games. Regardless of the name, Caribbean stud poker is more closely related to vingt-et-un than traditional poker, in that the gamblers bet against the bank rather than the other players. The winning hands, are the traditional poker hands. There is little conniving or different types of bamboozlement. In Caribbean stud poker, you are required to ante up before the croupier saying "No more wagers." At that point, both you and the casino and of course all of the other gamblers acquire 5 cards each. Once you have looked at your hand and the casino’s first card, you must in turn make a call bet or bow out. The call bet’s value is equal to your beginning wager, which means that the risks will have increased two fold. Abandoning means that your bet goes instantly to the house. After the bet is the face off. If the dealer does not have ace/king or greater, your wager is given back, with a figure on par with the ante. If the bank does have ace/king or better, you win if your hand defeats the dealer’s hand. The dealer pony’s up chips equal to your bet and fixed odds on your call bet. These expectations are:

  • Equal for a pair or high card
  • two to one for two pairs
  • 3-1 for three of a kind
  • four to one for a straight
  • 5-1 for a flush
  • 7-1 for a full house
  • twenty to one for a four of a kind
  • fifty to one for a straight flush
  • one hundred to one for a royal flush
