Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker contender on the planet by quite a few of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching turning 1. His grandfather showed him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wished to discover whatever he could about the game. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the adverse feedback from others annihilate his dream of becoming one of the strongest poker players in the world.
Phil started playing intently after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a learning experience and winning was not a regular thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he destroyed quite a few of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an immeasurable passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every day and is quite abashed about his success. He admits to making errors in each session of poker and constantly strives to get better.
Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a regular basis.
