Howard Lederer was born into in a family of five where he loved participating in various card games when he was young. He discovered himself getting very competitive in these card games as he was competing against his dad. After graduating from high school, Howard made a decision to put college on hold for a little bit and headed to New York City to compete in some big-time chess. While playing chess, he was brought in to a poker game taking place in the back of the room. Howard’s first 2 years were difficult as he played many hours and fail to win most times. He made some extra cash by becoming an runner for the poker enthusiasts. He judged he might improve his game by adjusting his life away from poker. He brought about an effort to get more rest and focus attention more on the game.
The definite improvement in his abilities began when he started betting at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the best gamblers would often challenge one another. Howard had access into a few of the greatest players in chess. With their assistance, he would tweak his logical thinking abilities. He used these strategic concepts in the game of No-Limit hold’em.
Howard Lederer also helped his sister Annie Duke learn poker. Annie Duke was a superb student of the game as she would always be asking questions about how to make the correct choice. Howard told Annie to move out to Sin City and compete in the World Series of Poker tournaments. Annie Duke is one of the greatest women players the poker arena has ever seen. He moved to Las Vegas in 1993 and participated in cash games for the successive decade. When the WPT gained popularity, Howard decided to compete in more tournaments.
