Gus Hansen enjoyed a wonderful year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only gambler to make it to the final table in 3 of the events. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may remember one of the largest pots in high stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen won a massive pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has made many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the greatest bettors anywhere in the world. While competing in net poker, a different side of Hansen has emerged. Gus regularly participates in the 200/400 NL max buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen frequently buys-in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very poorly. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then goes all in. I accept that Gus is an excellent poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is broke, he has absolutely no reason to settle at the game with the minimum buy in.
Playing for the min takes a majority of the expertise out of big stack poker. Gus is presumed to be one of the best poker players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy-in for the total amount. I think television can skew our view of the real world sometimes. The best poker players in the world could be guys you have will not have heard about. Gus can be found playing net poker on Full Tilt. He usually competes in big stakes omaha high and texas holdem. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a competition player.
