Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker competitor on the planet by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching turning 1. His grandfather taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to learn whatever he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the detrimental feedback from other people kill his goal of becoming one of the greatest poker players in the world.
Phil began competing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a learning period and coming away with a win was not a common thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated many of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an eternal passion for the game of poker. He states that he’s learning every day and is very abashed about his success. Phil knows he makes blunders every single game of poker and constantly strives to improve.
Although Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a normal basis.
