Gus Hansen had an amazing year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only one to achieve final game in three of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might remember one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker recorded history against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen won a large pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has earned many televised poker appearances and is considered to be one of the strongest enthusiasts anywhere in the world. While competing in internet poker, another side of Hansen has emerged. He frequently participates in the 200/400 NL maximum buy-in of $40, 000. Hansen usually buys in for the minimum of $16, 000 and plays very weak. He waits for a decent hand and then pushes all-in. I accept that Hansen is a great poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is broke, he has little or no reason to play at the table with the min buy-in.

Playing for the minimum takes most of the ability out of big stack poker. Hansen is assumed to be 1 of the best poker players in the world but he cannot buy in for the total dollar value. I think television can skew our view of the real world every now and then. The best players anywhere in the world may be guys you have will not have heard of. Gus can be found betting on online poker on Full Tilt. He commonly competes in big stakes omaha/8 and texas holdem. Gus has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his abilities in cash games?
