Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker player on the planet by many of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching turning 1. His grandpa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to learn every little thing he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not let the detrimental feedback from others destroy his goal of becoming one of the greatest poker players in the world.
Phil began competing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a common thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed many of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an eternal love for poker. Phil states that he’s learning every single day and is incredibly abashed about his achievements. Phil knows he makes mistakes in each game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Although Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a normal basis.
